  I am committed to strengthening our state’s commitment to education.  I support programs that help to build healthy children - from early childhood education to afterschool programs, from arts in the schools to community based providers - I believe all children, regardless of income, deserve equal opportunity to be successful leaders in the 21st Century.

  Securing the safety of our streets is a top priority for me. Men, women, children – our families and our seniors - must feel the peace and quality of life afforded to others in the city and state. I support efforts to curb the influence of gangs among the youth in our community. Corrections reform is also a top legislative priority.

  Senior citizens, especially those who live alone, may be victims of financial, emotional and even physical abuse that often goes unnoticed. Legislation that asks provider to identify elder abuse is an important step in the fight against senior victimization.

  Opportunities exist to bring serious investment in green technology to spur new job growth in Illinois. The Center for American Progress estimates nearly 90,000 jobs could be created in Illinois through such investments.  Green technologies in Illinois are an essential component in developing a high-quality workforce that remains in Illinois, contributes to and innovates our economy.

  Human rights for all is an issue I take very seriously. Whether that includes rights for the LGBT community, women, low income singles and families, the elderly or disabled. I look forward to building more awareness of these issues and am glad to be a voice in Springfield.

  Health care is not affordable for most families, individuals or employers. The rising costs of medical care and health insurance have put access to quality health coverage out of reach of too many people. Prevention programs and access to better nutrition in schools is a top legislative priority for me.

  The current economic crisis is hitting our friends and neighbors. Albany Park has one of the highest rates of foreclosures in the city. I am committed to working with my colleagues to identify solutions to the dilemma facing the State's economy.

  The housing crisis has created a complex array of problems for condo owners left dealing with the fallout of neighbors who have gone into foreclosure. And this year, taxpayers in Chicago watched their property taxes rise by as much as 46%. Protections for condo owners and property tax relief are critical solutions needed for our homeowners.
