December 11, 2009

With this week's snow storm and wind-chill temperatures, winter has really arrived. December is a month filled with activities, holiday gatherings, shopping and travel, and I hope you will support our local businesses as you make your lists. Click here for a directory of local businesses.

Many families are thinking about taxes and financial aide applications. Be sure to visit the University of Illinois Extension (Cook County) "Taxing Topics" to learn about new tax credits, deductions and help from the IRS on foreclosures. Homeowners should also be sure to apply for the City's Property Tax Relief Program. You may receive up to a $200 refund.

We are extending the deadline for our "There Ought to Be a Law" essay contest to allow students to work on this project over the holiday break. As always there are many fun activities taking place in the community this month. If you can, please help support our local organizations. I hope to see you this month! Click here to view my calendar of community events.

KEBIC Annual Food Drive

The Kedzie / Elston Business and Industrial Council (KEBIC) is asking for your help. Bateman, Cleveland , Linne and Murphy Elementary schools identified more than 50 kids in need this Christmas season.

Please help children in the community experience the joy of the season with adequate clothing, schools supplies and, perhaps, a special gift that brings a smile to a needy face. Your support and generosity can make this Christmas very special for these children whose need is so great.

If you can adopt a needy child this holiday season, contact call KEBIC today at 773-539-0000 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . KEBIC will deliver presents to each school Wednesday, December 16th, so would need your generous and heartfelt gifts by Tuesday, December 15th.
